ISO 27001 is the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS). While it does not specifically require a company to maintain an asset registry for laptops, monitors, keyboards, and other hardware assets, it does require the identification of assets that are important for the organization's information security and the protection of those assets.
Clause 8.1.1 of ISO 27001 states that an organization should identify the assets that need to be protected, taking into account their value, importance to the business, and sensitivity to compromise.
This identification can be done through a formal asset inventory or registry, which would include information such as the asset's unique identifier, owner, location, and other relevant details.
Therefore, while ISO 27001 does not explicitly require an asset registry for hardware assets, it does require the identification of assets important for information security, and maintaining an asset registry like Shelf can be a useful tool for achieving this goal.
