AssetTiger Pricing in 2026: Is It Still Free?

Short answer (checked 5 October 2026): AssetTiger no longer has a free plan. It offers a 30-day free trial for up to 250 assets and 2 users, with no credit card. After that, paid plans cost $20 to $275 a month depending on how many assets you track, and every paid plan includes unlimited users.

We build Shelf, which competes with AssetTiger. So every number below carries its source and the date we checked it. Where we calculated a number, we show the math.

How to read the table:

  • You pay by asset count, not by people. The page headline is "Pay for assets, not seats." Every paid plan includes unlimited users.
  • Yearly billing is one month free. AssetTiger's pricing FAQ says annual billing "is equivalent to 11 months at the monthly rate." So Basic is $20 × 11 = $220 a year.
  • Every paid plan has the same features. The page says "Every paid plan. Same features." and "No feature-gating by tier." You move up a plan to track more assets, not to unlock features.
  • The trial has limits. Up to 2 users, 50 sites, categories and departments, 5 custom fields, 100 email alerts a day, and no REST API. Paid plans remove these caps.
  • Above 250,000 assets the page does not list a plan. Its comparison table says paid plans cover "500 to 500K" assets, so ask AssetTiger for a quote.

What changed: from free plan to 30-day trial

AssetTiger was free for a long time. The Internet Archive shows how the pricing page changed.

  1. 30 June 2025 capture. The page said AssetTiger was "completely free for first 250 assets." Paid plans were yearly and fixed to the calendar year: $120 a year for 500 assets, $230 for 2,500, $400 for 10,000, $800 for 50,000 and $1,600 for 250,000. You could also keep using AssetTiger free by buying asset tags from MyAssetTag.com, its parent company, starting at $180 of tags a year for 500 assets.
  2. 30 September 2025 capture. Today's plan names and prices appear: Basic $20 a month up to Enterprise $275 a month. The free plan for 250 assets stays. The plan limits table also lists an "Ultimate" tier for 500,000 assets, with no price shown.
  3. 10 June 2026 capture. Same plans and prices. The intro says "Our free plan covers what most small teams need."
  4. 26 July 2026 capture. Still the same. The free plan is shown as "FREE* / for 250 Assets", and the intro still says "Our free plan covers what most small teams need."
  5. 11 September 2026 capture. This is the first capture with the 30-day trial: "30-day free trial · Up to 250 assets · No credit card required." Paid prices are unchanged from July. This matches the live page we checked on 5 October 2026.

So AssetTiger dropped its free plan between 26 July and 11 September 2026. The archive has no capture in between, so we cannot date it more closely.

AssetTiger's own FAQ now says it plainly: "There is no permanently free tier for active organizations on the current pricing model."

Two related points:

  • The entry price went up in 2025. 500 assets cost $120 a year on the 30 June 2025 capture and $220 a year on the 30 September 2025 capture. That is $100 more, about 83%.
  • Older review pages are out of date. For example, Expert Market's asset tracking guide (updated 2 October 2025) still calls AssetTiger free software for up to 250 items. That was true when it was written.

What happens when the trial ends

AssetTiger's two pages say slightly different things. Its Terms of Service (last updated June 2026) say accounts not upgraded after 30 days "will automatically transition to view-only status": you can see your data, but you cannot add, edit or delete assets or users. Its FAQ says you "can choose a paid plan or continue with limited features." We read the terms as the binding version. If you rely on this, ask AssetTiger to confirm.

We found no statement on what happens to accounts created on the old free plan. If you have one, check your account's subscription page.

What AssetTiger does well

AssetTiger is good value for many teams. These strengths are real:

  • Unlimited users on every paid plan. A school with 60 staff and 500 assets pays $20 a month. By contrast, Sortly includes a fixed number of user licenses per plan, and Asset Panda priced by user with a 5-user minimum on its last public list.
  • One feature set at every price. Reservations and booking, lease and lease-return, disposal, physical audits, 80+ report types, depreciation, contracts, warranties, insurance and fund tracking are all on the plan comparison for every paid plan.
  • Security and access basics. 120+ permission settings, 2FA and Google SSO on every paid plan.
  • A REST API on every paid plan, with a sandbox and Swagger docs.
  • Low entry price. $220 a year covers 500 assets for your whole organization.

Where AssetTiger stops

  • Kits. AssetTiger's pricing page and FAQ do not mention kits or grouped equipment sets (checked 5 October 2026). If a camera body, lenses and batteries must go out and come back as one set, check how AssetTiger handles that before you buy.
  • Custody and booking in one flow. AssetTiger lists both check-in/check-out and asset reservations. We have not used its booking feature, so we do not describe how the two connect. In Shelf, staff check out directly from a confirmed booking, and the return closes it.
  • Open source and self-hosting. AssetTiger is cloud only. Its FAQ says "No servers, no installations." There is no source code to inspect and no self-hosted option.
  • Cost grows with the asset list. Asset 501 moves you from $220 to $440 a year. Asset 10,001 moves you from $825 to $1,540. Stored or idle assets count the same as busy ones.

Shelf for the same team sizes

Shelf publishes its prices on /pricing (checked 5 October 2026):

  • Personal (Free): $0, 1 user, unlimited assets, custody, kits, locations, 3 custom fields. Free with no time limit.
  • Plus: $34 a month or $190 a year, 1 user, unlimited custom fields, CSV import and export.
  • Team: $67 a month or $370 a year. Unlimited users and unlimited assets. Bookings, the booking calendar and self-checkouts start on Team. 7-day free trial, no credit card.
  • Add-ons on Team: Audits $37 a month or $205 a year; Alternative Barcodes $18.50 a month or $170 a year, to keep the labels already on your items; SSO (SAML) from $9 per SSO user a month on annual billing.
  • Enterprise: custom.

Shelf Free is for one person. Any team of two or more needs Team.

All totals below are per year on yearly billing, checked 5 October 2026.

1. A small team: 4 people, 400 assets

  • AssetTiger: Basic, $220 a year. Unlimited users, audits included.
  • Shelf: Team, $370 a year. Free and Plus are 1 user only.
  • Verdict: AssetTiger is $150 a year cheaper. If only one person manages the gear, Shelf Free is $0 and has no time limit.

2. A school: 20 staff users, 2,000 assets

  • AssetTiger: Core, $440 a year. Audits, reservations and depreciation included.
  • Shelf: Team, $370 a year, or $575 a year with the Audits add-on. Registered non-profit schools get 10% off Team and add-ons on annual billing, so $517.50 with Audits.
  • Verdict: Close. Without audits, Shelf costs $70 less. With audits, AssetTiger costs less. If the school passes 2,500 assets, AssetTiger moves to Advanced at $825 and Shelf stays the same.

3. A multi-site team: 10,000 assets

  • AssetTiger: Advanced, $825 a year, for exactly up to 10,000 assets. One more asset means Pro at $1,540 a year.
  • Shelf: one Team workspace with a location per site, $370 a year, or $575 with Audits. If each site wants its own separate workspace, each workspace is its own Team subscription. For 4 sites that is 4 × $370 = $1,480 a year, plus Audits per workspace.
  • Verdict: One shared workspace costs less on Shelf. Four separate workspaces cost more than AssetTiger Advanced. Sign-in also matters here. AssetTiger includes Google SSO on every paid plan. On Shelf, SAML SSO is an add-on priced per SSO user, while username and password users stay unlimited.

The honest trade-off. Shelf is built for equipment a team uses and passes around: who has it, where it is, when it comes back, and who has it booked next. Kits are on every Shelf plan, including Free. Shelf is open source under the AGPL, so you can read the code or host it yourself. AssetTiger is stronger on the finance side. Shelf has no depreciation schedules and no dedicated contract, warranty or insurance records; you would use custom fields and asset reminders instead. If your main job is a fixed asset register for accounting, AssetTiger covers that and Shelf does not.

Frequently asked questions

Is AssetTiger free?

Not any more. AssetTiger offers a 30-day free trial for up to 250 assets and 2 users, with no credit card. After 30 days you need a paid plan, from $20 a month or $220 a year for 500 assets (assettiger.com/pricing, checked 5 October 2026). The permanent free plan for 250 assets was on the pricing page until at least 26 July 2026.

Does AssetTiger charge per user?

No. Every paid plan includes unlimited users. AssetTiger's FAQ says there is "no per-seat pricing and no limit on concurrent users." You pay only by the number of assets you track. The 30-day trial is limited to 2 users.

What is the inventory add-on?

It tracks stock quantities, such as spare parts and supplies, next to your tagged assets. It is separate from the asset plans. It is free for up to 2 inventory items, then $15 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly ($165 a year), for unlimited items (assettiger.com/pricing, checked 5 October 2026). Shelf tracks quantities and consumables on every plan, with no add-on.

AssetTiger vs Asset Panda: which costs less?

AssetTiger, by a wide margin. AssetTiger starts at $220 a year for 500 assets with unlimited users. Asset Panda no longer publishes prices; its last public price list started at $3,000 a year for 5 users and 1,000 assets. See our Asset Panda pricing breakdown for the sources.

Can I move from AssetTiger to Shelf?

Yes. AssetTiger's FAQ says you can export any asset list to CSV. Shelf imports assets from a CSV file on the Plus, Team and Enterprise plans: see the CSV import guide. To keep the barcodes already on your items, add Alternative Barcodes on the Team plan, so you do not need to re-tag anything.
