Shelf Companion 1.4.0: A Booking Calendar, and Audit Evidence You Can Read Back

Shelf Companion v1.4.0 is live on the App Store and Google Play. Bookings gain a calendar, audit evidence becomes something you can find and read back, and a handful of things the web had always shown finally appear on the phone.

Bookings have a calendar

The bookings list answers what is coming up. What it could never show is shape — that one week is packed and the rest of the month is open, which is the thing a rental operation needs to know before saying yes to another job.

The Bookings screen now has two lenses, switched from the header. The calendar draws a coloured band across every day a booking runs, so a five-day job reads as one continuous run rather than five identical dots, and overlapping jobs stack. When a day holds more bookings than the cell can draw, the most urgent ones win the space — overdue before ongoing, ongoing before reserved — and the rest are counted as +N, because a grid you read to judge risk must never hide the alarming thing to make room for the routine one.

Tap a day and the panel underneath lists what is booked on it, each row tapping through to the booking. On a team workspace the panel carries a New booking button that starts a booking on the day you tapped. Pull down to refresh and a booking someone else just made on the web appears without leaving the screen.

Search and the status pills apply to both lenses. And because the grid shows one month while the list is date-blind, a row underneath reads "N more outside this month" and jumps to the next booking's date, so switching lens never makes bookings quietly disappear.

Audit evidence, found and read back

Attaching a condition note or a photo to a scanned asset has been possible since 1.1.0, but the only affordance was a small chevron on the row — so people finished audits without ever discovering it.

Each scanned row now carries an explicit Add photo/note action, and a one-time hint names it the first time a row appears. Once a row holds evidence, the action becomes a count of what it carries.

Evidence is also readable now. On the audit's asset list, a row that carries evidence says what it holds — "1 note, 2 photos" — and tapping it opens the full record: every note and every photo, with who recorded it and when. Notes and photos are counted separately on purpose: one note plus one photo is not the same thing as two photos, so summing them would make two rows look identical when they are not.

An audit in progress stops reading like an alarm

An expected asset nobody has reached yet now reads Not scanned on the phone, exactly as it does on the web, and only becomes Missing once you complete the audit. The filter pills follow the same rule — Not scanned while the audit is open, Missing once it is finished — and audit colours and wording now come from one shared source, so the two platforms can no longer drift apart.

An audit with no specific assignee says Unassigned · admins and owners can scan, so it is clear who is expected to pick it up.

Assets and bookings show more

• Asset detail names the Asset Model and the Asset ID, the workspace's own sequential label such as SAM-0017. That is the value the scanner's Enter code field accepts, so the phone can now tell you an asset's SAM instead of only taking one. Search results print it under the name too, so a SAM search shows which record matched.
• Booking detail names who created the booking, on a Created by row, and shows the booking's tags as chips in their workspace colours. Custodian and creator are often different people.

Fixes

• Booking times you pick on the phone are your account's times. The date and time pickers now work in the time zone from your Shelf date and time preferences rather than the handset's zone. Anyone whose phone zone differed from their Shelf preference used to pick one time and see another the moment they saved.
• Booking dates on the home screen include the month again.
• Every status badge meets accessibility contrast standards, in light and dark mode.
• Switching workspace with an unclaimed QR code waiting to be linked no longer claims the sticker into the wrong workspace. The app stops and tells you to scan it again from the workspace you want it in.

Take the update from the App Store or Google Play. Everything above needs 1.4.0 — an older install keeps working, it just does not have these.
