Personal Workspaces Now Say They Hold One Person

"How can someone join my workspace?" has been our most-asked support question for a long time. The answer is always the same — a Personal workspace holds one person — and the product never actually said so. Worse, Settings → Team removed the answer instead of showing it: Users and Pending invites were hidden from the nav, and opening either URL directly redirected to General settings with nothing to explain why.

That is fixed.

Settings → Team explains the limit

A Personal workspace now shows a panel headed "Inviting people needs a Team workspace", which expands to say that Personal workspaces are for one person while Team workspaces add teammates, shared custody, and bookings.

Users and Pending invites stay in the nav and render locked, with the tooltip "Inviting users is available on Team workspaces", rather than vanishing. Going to either URL directly now lands you on the Team page that explains it instead of dumping you in General settings.

The button knows which case you are in

The upgrade button reads one of three things, and each one leads somewhere that works:

• Start a Team trial — your plan does not include a Team workspace and your free trial is still available
• Upgrade to Team — your plan does not include one and your trial has already been used
• Create a Team workspace — your plan already entitles you to one; there is nothing to buy

The third case matters more than it sounds. Someone already paying for a Team plan who simply never created the workspace used to be shown an upgrade prompt, and someone who had already spent their trial was offered another one that would be refused.

Signup states the consequence, not just the option

The /welcome plan cards now say what each choice costs you. The Personal card reads: "For one person. You won't be able to invite teammates or use bookings." And if you told us during onboarding that more than one person will use Shelf, Team is pre-selected — pick Personal anyway and Shelf shows a caution naming the team size you gave, with a one-click Switch to Team.

"You can always switch later" is gone, because it was misleading: creating a Team workspace makes a second workspace alongside your Personal one. Nothing is converted, and you keep both.

Small thing, worth saying

The non-registered members empty state no longer calls them "team members". They are name-only records for assigning custody and they cannot log in, so calling them team members sent people down a path that could never answer their question.
