Locations That Hold More Than You Own Now Say So

For quantity-tracked stock, placements record where units are and the total records how many you own. Using up a consumable lowers the total without touching the placements, and once every unit was assigned to a location there was no spare pool left to absorb the difference — so the two quietly disagreed.

You would not find out until later. The asset card showed Unplaced 0 where the honest figure was negative, and the next perfectly ordinary edit to the placements was refused with "Sum of placements (87) exceeds the asset's total quantity (82)" — an error about numbers you had not touched.

What changed

• The asset's Quantity Overview card now carries an Over-placed row with the real amount and what to do about it, instead of clamping it to zero.
• Where the units clearly came from one location, that placement is trimmed automatically as part of the same change, so the common case sorts itself out.
• Where the stock is spread across several locations, nothing in the record says which room the units left, so Shelf leaves the row standing and asks rather than writing in a number that was never true.
• Opening Manage placements on an asset that is already over-placed now explains what happened and points at the fix, rather than reading your own figures back to you as a validation error.
• Lowering a total below what your placements claim is refused up front, on the edit form, on a quick adjustment, and through a CSV update: "Cannot reduce 'Gaffer tape' to 40 rolls — 55 rolls are assigned to locations. Lower the placements first, then reduce the total."

Assets whose stock is only partly placed are unaffected, which is most of them. Only placements you set by hand count towards this; a kit's slice is measured on its own and never makes an asset read as over-placed.
